Colorado Line of Duty Death Response Team Changes Name To Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation

March 16, 2017

At the beginning of the endeavor for the Colorado Line Of Duty Death Response Team (LODDRT), the focus was getting a core group of folks together to begin working on the team, rather than focusing on the name.

Aside from being a mouthful, the team wanted something shorter and with more meaning. Thus, after much discussion LODDRT has changed the group’s name to the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation (CFHF). They found this to better represent what they do, and to sound a bit less morbid. They have come up with a logo and have begun to have a presence on social media using this name.

As part of the development as a foundation, they have come up with a mission statement:

Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation (CFHF) is a non-profit organization made up of Colorado law enforcement officers and civilian personnel who serve in a voluntary capacity.  When a line of duty death occurs, the CFHF can assist, support, and provide resources for a host agency to the degree or depth permitted by the agency head.  The primary goal and objective, however, is to serve the deceased officer’s family based on their needs and wishes.

Their main goal is to properly honor the officer while respecting the families’ wishes. The wishes of the family will take precedence over those of the agency and the CFHF. The goal of the team is to be able to assist any agency with a line of duty death, but the agencies that can benefit the most from this team may be smaller agencies that have never had to plan a line of duty death funeral. Additionally, in a mass casualty line of duty death the team can step in and assist even a larger agency. The wide range of expertise and varying backgrounds of the team members will ensure that all areas of a line of duty death funeral are thoroughly addressed and properly handled.

Any funds raised will solely be used for costs associated with the team deploying to a location where an agency has lost a member in the line of duty.

Funds will only be used for things such as:

  • Costs relating to the funeral itself such as equipment rental, funeral home costs, etc.
  • Lodging and associated costs for team members if they have to travel to a location to assist an agency.
  • Assisting the family with costs  (i.e. dress clothes, lodging, etc.) if an agency does not have sufficient funds to do so.
  • Any other costs that arise that are directly related to assisting the family, the agency, or the team members in properly planning and holding a dignified and respectful ceremony for the fallen officer.
  • Any operations costs that arise such as team uniforms (i.e. polo shirts) or equipment that directly relates to the team’s ability to properly plan a LODD funeral and/or assist an affected agency.
